One of my favorite parts of going to Italy and immersing myself in new cultures is seeing and observing the clothing people where. I was constantly taking mental notes (next on my agenda is to get a notebook!) of what all the locals were wearing. It was easier to pick the locals apart more in the northern Italy than on the Amalfi Coast because in Northern Italy everyone dressed so chic and clean. Where as the Amalfi Coast was much more touristy and for the most part everyone's style was very laid back, beachy and relaxed.
In Northern Italy it was a sea of Adidas Stan Smith's and monochrome black/white outfits. It was almost as if Stan Smith's were part of a uniform. People wear Stan Smith's with EVERYTHING. They're trending in the states as well but not nearly as much as in Italy.
What also made it easy to observe and determine what was trendy was how many teens I saw in Modena and Milan just walking around the cities with their friends. You could tell they lived there and they all dressed alike. The looks were very minimal and the shoes, Stan Smith's or not, was what made the outfit stand out. Girls wear a simple white or black t-shirt or halter tank top, sometimes with a black moto jackets, and culottes/boyfriend jeans or a slim fitted t-shirt dress with their Adidas Sam Smith's or Superstars. If they weren't wearing adidas shoes many would be wearing converse or thick soled oxfords. Accessories like the outfit itself were very minimal and and while many women had salon manicured hair, many wild yet stylish hair with flyaway curls were very embraced. Guys would wear very nice button downs or over sized logo t-shirts with slimmer fit jeans than the girls, and the same shoes as the girls except you would also see very nice dress shoes. I really was not used to seeing guys pay so much attention to their physical appearance because almost every single guy I saw my age had their eyebrows done and their hair was perfectly gelled or tousled. Below is a small collection of outfits on pinterest that remind me of what I saw in Europe (All links are attached)!
