Oh, how I adore Cincinnati! Cincinnati is ever-growing with amazing and eclectic boutiques, restaurants, and parks, as well as highlighting old staples that have helped shaped the city into what it is today. For what has come part of an end of the year/birthday tradition for myself is a day trip to Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Art Museum with my Uncle Sam (this year Janina got to come), my sister, Maddy, and her boyfriend, Clayton.

We start off the day with lunch in one of my favorite neighborhoods in Cincinnati: OTR (Over The Rhine). OTR has a plethora of dining options, but as a quick option we chose Godfellas. Godfellas is a pizza-by-the-slice restaurant with an old speakeasy bar on the second floor. This is another reason why I love Cincinnati: business owners chose to open their businesses in buildings that contain so much history.

A must when I go to Cincinnati is a trip to the Macaron Bar. I am not sure whether or not my obsession with macarons will ever subside. Still waiting to cross eating a macaron in Paris off my bucket list! Shown to the right is some of the flavors I also try (birthday cake and caramel), as well as a new favorite: lavender lemon.

If you are from Springfield and do not want to or are unable to make the trip to Cincinnati, Springfield has some amazing macaron bakers as well! A business I want to highlight is Le Torte Dolci! They are a bakery who have been at the local farmer's market downtown in the summer, but I believe they are extending their business and opening a storefront on N. Fountain right next to Bada Bing and Winans! You cannot beat the price for their macaroons, and they are so delicious! I have attached below their website, and for when they'll be at the winter farmer's market!

After a few hours in OTR we took a short drive to Eden Park to the Cincinnati Art Museum to see the Iris van Herpen: Transforming Fashion exhibit. This past fall has felt like the season of fashion museums for me, and I was so happy to be able to go to one in my home state. The Iris van Herpen Transforming Fashion exhibit appeals to so many people: engineers, fashion designers, scientists, textile designers, and more. Once again, showing how fashion is intertwined with everything.

Iris Van Herpen is about as contemporary and modern as it comes with fashion designers, constantly finding connections and inspirations from nature and science to construct her collections. The exhibit was showcased with two long hallways of her best pieces from each collection, interviews with the designer, and an interactive station where one can touch all of the eclectic textiles she uses to create her pieces.

A quote from Iris van Herpen's website describes her style and vision beautifully: "Van Herpen is often hailed as a pioneer in utilizing 3D printing as a garment construction technique, and as an innovator who is comfortable with using technology as one of the guiding principles in her work because of its sculptural nature and unfamiliar form. The designer’s intent is to blend the past and the future into a distinct version of the present by fusing technology and traditional Couture craftsmanship." Iris's designs are all about movement of the body, and how the body molds into nature and fashion and vice versa. She redefines the word "haute couture" in a way that is so raw and organic, and that is what makes her pieces so intriguing to the eye.

Below is a gallery of my favorite pieces from the collection , as well as the materials used.

To end the day, we stopped at another one of my Cincinnati favorites: Aglamesis Bro's in the Oakley neighborhood. Aglamsis is an old fashion ice cream parlor that has been around in Cincinnati since 1908, and it's open all year! You walk in, and your surrounded by chocolates on your left, and an ice cream bar on your right. Their menu is quite extensive, but I swear by their raspberry milkshake. It is SO GOOD.

We went the day after Christmas, so naturally I wanted to show off my new coat! For awhile now, I have wanted a winter coat that was practical yet bold. I did not want a traditional pea coat, but I still wanted something that was comfortable and fitted. After looking online, I found exactly what I was looking for: Old Navy's Long Moto Jacket. The moto jacket style gives the coat a modern, edgy feel, while the pink gives it a girly vibe, which is exactly what I was looking to compliment my ever-evolving personal style.

A reason why I love this new coat so much is because you can dress it up or down as much as you want. For this particular day, I chose a simple cozy, vibe with a thick, ivory cold shoulder sweater from Wildflower Boutique in Yellow Springs, boyfriend jeans from Express, and my beloved Stan Smith sneakers.

My Stan Smith's have become my go to shoes for just about everything. I wear them with denim skirts, knitted dresses, jeans, sweaters, EVERYTHING. Stan Smith's have dominated the trend cycle in the past five years, but I'll keep these forever. Trends are a cycle; it is just a matter of years and decades before what we wear now is out of style and what we wore ten years ago comes back into style. What makes me so attracted to fashion is that I am constantly observing tiny details, colors, fabrics, you name it. My notes on my phone are filled with random articles, jotting down outfits I see on the streets I like, bloggers I want to follow, fashion-related events I want to attend, etc., and eventually I transfer them to my journal. I am a firm believer in the importance in collecting pieces of what you are passionate about. Whether it is writing, taking photos, creating or building, act upon what you are passionate about!!

A quote from one of my favorite style icons that includes a few of my favorite things: pink and finding joy in the little things: "I believe in pink. I believe laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest. I believe tomorrow is another day, and I believe in miracles." - Audrey Hepburn.
