Woman On a Mission

I was recently asked during an interview the typical question of, "Where do you see yourself in five years?" I replied saying, "Continuing to challenge myself in incorporating my two passions together: service work and fashion," and this is my mission as a woman.

The fashion industry from the outside can seem like a very materialistic and individualistic field, and many times it is this way. However, I have been determined to view as just the opposite: a field that is giving and a community full of women empowering women through kindness and grace. A brand powered and founded by women who are already doing this?--FEED. FEED's logo is Fashion That Gives Back. FEED partners with numerous of nonprofits and charities, but its original identity that they still carry with them today is fighting world hunger. They do this by having a number stamped somewhere on each of their merchandise, signifying the number of meals donated to schools in impoverished nations, specifically those in Africa.

-"The best thing about girl power is that it turns into woman power." - Cleo Wade

FEED has continued their mission in a special way for International Woman's Month by creating a limited edition collection of bags created by four women who embody wholeheartedly what it means to be a woman on a mission. Not only do the bags donate 10 school meals, but they also donate a dollar to a charity chosen by the woman who designed it.

I could not be supportive of what FEED's mission is, and I had the opportunity to quite literally "stumble" in the FEED shop and cafe when I was in DUMBO last Friday. I always wanted to check out DUMBO, so my uncle and I decided to go after we went to the David Bowie exhibition at The Brooklyn Museum (10/10 recommend), and lunch on Fulton St. with Janina.

As beautiful as DUMBO is, it was also extremely windy and frigid, so we had to stop for an espresso break in Empire Stores in Brooklyn Bridge Park., which is an old warehouse converted into cafes and stores. Of course, the FEED shop happened to be in there!

I love little encounters like this, and I loved talking to the barista while I was there. Even though the grand opening party of the collection was a few days before I came, I was fortunate to already have purchased a Woman on a Mission tote from my work at Sadie's! My boss, Cat, is also a woman who believes fashion should give back, and I am so happy to work for a boutique that supports numerous brands that give back to a certain cause.

If you find yourself in South Orange, New Jersey, make sure to stop by Sadie's. I am always up for a good chat with customers at work!

I encourage you all to find out what your mission is as a woman, and to find your own life motto.

Here is mine: We are created to love, and we are created to serve.
