Three states, two girls, one fabulous weekend.

As I am writing this post, I am feeling nostalgic about the very people who inspired me to start my blog a little over three years ago. Three years ago, I was not really sure where my place stood in the world of fashion. Fast forward to the present, and I am still not 100% sure where my place is, but I have a pretty good idea.

The pocket of the fashion world I call my own consists of amazing friendships, female role models who are everything I hope to be and more, and discovering companies who use their brand as a platform to stand up for what they believe in. Of course, there is also the spontaneous meet-ups and random encounters at my store or on the street revolving around fashion that I cherish as well. Thankfully, this past weekend consisted of it all.

Better late than never, my fashionista soul sister and I, were finally able to plan a fall break trip together on the East Coast. Many train rides, coffees, and Friend episodes later, the weekend is coming to an end, but it is one that will be marked as Girls Weekend: The Met, Zac Posen, and Fabulous Food.

Friday

A tradition two years young: going to the Lexington Candy Shop & Luncheonette and the Met Costume Institute Exhibition. This years exhibition, Heavily Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination was absolutely beautiful. To look at how ornate the Popes' garments were and to see how much meticulous precision and skill went into making every single stitch and detail was breathtaking. Never before have I realized how popes are representing a piece of history and the popes who came before them in what they wear. Then, in the second portion of the exhibit, I became mesmerized by how 20th and 21st-century designers have used the Catholic faith as an inspiration behind some of their most beautiful collections. I could not have thought of a better way to portray the relationship between the fashion industry and the Catholic Church than how the Met showcased each piece so beautifully and intentionally.

The Lexington Candy Shop and Luncheonette is an Upper East Side staple, and it's almost 100 years old! The interior of it provides a homey, hole-in-the-wall experience, yet the walls make you feel as if you are stepping back in time. They are covered with newspaper clippings, paintings, autographs, etc. of historical events starting from the 1920's to the present day. I highly recommend the pie of the day a la mode! Not only do I love this place for the great company and conversations that come while being there but also for the sense of home it brings. You'll see families, older couples, younger couples, and.... ZAC POSEN (well, almost)!!! Later in the evening, we saw on Instagram that Zac Posen was at the luncheonette only an hour after we were there. One day I'll meet a fashion icon, and I just hope it happens to be at the Lexington Candy Shop and Luncheonette.

For the day in the city, I chose a 70's inspired outfit once again. My neck scarves and bell bottom jeans are past the point of being "just a phase" and have become part of my staples and signature looks. I wanted to choose a balance of colors for this look instead of just plain denim and black. Below are the steps for creating this look and some basic style tips!

Color Scheme: Brown, Black, Blue, Pink

  • Whenever possible, pair cropped shirts when wearing bell bottoms to create balanced proportions for your outfit. The black top I am wearing is Michelle by Commune from my boutique I work, at and it is SO SOFT. I love pairing it with my jeans and black boots or sandals.

  • For the past four years I have been wearing my Grandma's neck scarf over and over, but this summer I finally found some more at the boutique I worked at in Yellow Springs this past summer! The one in the photo is my favorite because it is a classic 70's print and it has so many shades of color in it: blues, pinks, and browns. Neck scarves are great because they can be used as bows, headbands, and belts, but I went with the traditional use for this look with just one simple knot in the front.

  • DON'T BE AFRAID TO MIX PRINTS. Playing with prints can seem daunting at first, but the key is to do it subtly. My tip is to start basic and incorporate prints in later. For example, in this look,I started with basic black and denim. Then added the multi-colored scarf in and my pink + brown tortoise-shell glasses in later. The mixing of the two prints + the graphics on the bag is what was able to pull the whole look together.

Saturday and Sunday

After having to run past Batman, Captain America, and the mobs of Comic Con goers to catch our Mega Bus, we were finally on our way to Philly. If Cleveland and New York City had a child, that child would be Philadelphia. Philly has your proud football fans, ma and pa restaurants and blue collar/industrial areas (Cleveland), and then it has your city feel, fancy shops and parks, and gentrified-lined streets/neighborhoods (NYC). All in all, I had such a great time walking around Philly and UPenn's campus, but I had even better food. Philly is definitely a foodie city, and I absolutely LOVED the dim sum we had at the Dim Sum House and my pancakes at Sabrina's Cafe. Sabrina's Cafe is the ultimate brunch place located in a beautiful old Victorian house with equally beautiful presentation of their food complete with a Gilmore Girl's Stars Hollow homey feel to it.

Magic Garden's Photoshoot

The Magic Garden's in Philly are most definitely a millennial/ gen z powered attraction. Kalyxa and I both agreed it would not be as famous as it today if not for Instagram. However, of course, it did not stop us from going. To get inside is $10, but we just walked around the surrounding area because there are mosaic walls everywhere!!

I love, love, love midi length dresses, but lately I've been mixing it up by wearing graphic tees over top of them. It's another fun way to mix and match prints. My tip is start with a basic white tee with black print because then it goes with almost every color and every print. I will always love floral prints no matter what trends I go in and out of, and this particular dress is from Old Navy. They have the cutest dresses for amazing prices!!

My girls weekend was one to remember, and it reminded me of how important it is to have people in your life who share the same passion as you do. I am so thankful to have found my fashionista soul sister.
